Bourgas

Have you ever had such a thing that you could not describe something? And not because they could not pick up words, but because there are too many of them? This is the situation I have with Burgas.

Naturally, the first thing that comes to mind that Burgas boasts is the sea. Yes, you can have a great time on the beach, sunbathing and swimming, but that’s not all. For me, the most important and memorable discovery was something else, and I want to share it.

This city is beautiful for its architecture, paved boulevards and streets. Here, modern buildings harmoniously coexist with mansions of the Art Nouveau era and cultural monuments. Here, right on the city street, you can meet something very ancient. And it is not hidden under glass, among this you can live, look at everything and even touch! Therefore, each walk in Burgas can be a bit of a trip to the museum.

In addition to all these things, the whole city is buried in the greenery of the southern fertile land, and the air is saturated with sea and sun. This creates an incredible atmosphere of romance and tranquility, where there is no need to rush anywhere, you just need to live and enjoy.

All these are my impressions and emotions, not burdened with a sense of Soviet nostalgia, because this is not given to my generation. They are received only from my observations and sensations. There are so many beautiful, interesting and historical places in Burgas and its surroundings, but many visitors do not even suspect this! I want people to finally find out that Burgas is not only a beach holiday city, but also a cultural one. That here you can combine business with pleasure.

And I believe that any person in Burgas will have something to do. There is almost everything here - the sea, the sun, a lot of greenery and tasty, unusual food, although this was not mentioned, nightlife, history and in general there is something to see. Well, what else is needed for happiness?

How to get there

There are several options for how to get to Burgas, but the only optimal one is by plane. This can only be done from Moscow or from St. Petersburg. Adventure lovers and those who want to always be on wheels can offer an option by car. With the rest of the transport is a difficult situation.

By plane

The most convenient and fastest way will be a plane: it takes about three hours to fly from Moscow to Burgas. Direct flights are operated daily by S7. If you take a ticket in advance, then keep within 250 EUR (round trip). Also, the airlines Yamal, Nordstar and Bulgaria Air have direct charter flights - the cost is the same. See prices on official sites or compare where cheaper - here. It’s better not to even consider transplant options - they will cost more.

How to get to the city center

The airport in Burgas is located in the suburbs, in the Sarafovo region. From there, the center can be reached either by bus number 15, it will cost about 1 EUR (2 BGN, BGN), or by taxi - from 10 EUR (20 BGN). Take a taxi for about 15 minutes, the bus, of course, longer.

You can also rent a car right at the airport right away (I will tell you more about this below).

I also want to remind you that to enter Bulgaria you will need a national or Schengen visa with multiple entries. You can read more about a visa to Bulgaria here.

By train

There is no direct connection from Moscow to Burgas by rail, and in general, our country has a difficult situation with trains to Bulgaria. Recently, the train route Moscow - Sofia is being canceled, then introduced, then canceled again. Therefore, when planning a trip by train, call the Russian Railways in advance and specify whether such a train runs or will run.

Well, remember, if you are going to travel by train, you have to travel through EU countries. Therefore, for such a route, a Schengen visa with multiple entries should be issued.

Upon arrival in Sofia, you will have several options for getting to Burgas. It is possible by train: for five and a half hours there is a train "Seagull", the rest - seven and a half. The cost depends on the train and class of seats, the cheapest will cost about 10 EUR (20 BGN).

How to get to the city center

The railway station in Burgas is located almost in the historical and tourist center of the city, so the main beauties will be within walking distance from you.

A little later I will talk about how to move around the city if you need to get to a remote area.

Also from Sofia to Burgas can be reached by bus: by time - from 4 hours, by money - from 14 EUR (28 BGN). You can find out how to get there by car and read more about the route from Sofia to Burgas here.

By bus

There are no direct bus official flights to Burgas from Russia. Even more - they do not exist before Bulgaria.

On the Internet you can find information about buses that transport people from Moscow to Burgas and back, but this is done by companies or individuals with whom bus stations do not cooperate. As a rule, this is organized by some enterprising people who want to earn extra money. If the spirit of an adventurer lives in you, you can take a chance.

The option with transfers is better not to consider at all. It may be cheaper, but I think it's not worth it.

In extreme cases, if you definitely need a bus, you can look for a tour, for example, here.

By car

The distance from Moscow to Burgas is about 2 thousand km. This path involves following through countries such as Ukraine, Moldova and Romania. There are no problems in terms of visas: you pass Ukraine and Moldova on a passport, in Romania transit on a Bulgarian visa is allowed. Also, to travel by car in Moldova, Romania and in Bulgaria itself, you will need to buy vignettes.

In addition, you will have a small obstacle on the way: on the border of Romania (Calarasi) and Bulgaria (Silistra) you will need to cross the Danube by ferry. The ferry runs from 6:00 to 22:00, so you need to calculate the time to arrive there during this period. They also say that you need to have the national currency of the country with you, because only she can pay for the steam. Estimated cost of the crossing is 10 EUR.

How long the road will take is up to you. If there are several drivers in the car and you do not plan long stops, then the trip will take about a day and a half. In another case, you need to think over a stop overnight in advance.

I can’t say for sure the budget, because it all depends on gas prices, car fuel consumption, food costs, etc. But on average only gasoline will rise in the region of 140 EUR (9000 RUB).

By ferry

From Novorossiysk to Burgas can be reached by ferry "Friendship". Depending on the choice of cabin, the cost of a trip for an adult is approximately 120 EUR and 60 EUR for a child under 12 years of age (one way). Children under 6 years old are allowed free travel. Additionally, if you decide to bring a car with you, you will have to pay 230 EUR. For such a trip, one Bulgarian national visa is enough.

This option is suitable for those who wanted to feel like a captain of a long voyage - such a trip to Burgas lasts 9 days. Three days the ferry goes to Batumi (Georgia), where you can take a breath, then another six directly to Burgas.

When is the season. When is the best time to go?

The holiday season in Burgas begins around mid-May and lasts until the end of September. Therefore, for those who want to swim and sunbathe, it is worth planning a vacation during this period. For those who just want to see the city, the rest of the months are also suitable.

Burgas in the summer

The hottest months are usually July and August. At this time, the warmest sea and the darkest tan are waiting for you. It happens that there is real heat and the sun directly burns. For lunch, as a rule, for this reason, people sit either in a hotel or in various cafes and restaurants.

The disadvantage of this period is that it is the most popular among tourists. Therefore, all hotels are clogged, on the streets, beaches and cafes full of people.

Burgas in the fall

The only month when you can still have time to swim in the sea is September, the so-called "velvet season". The air temperature is already starting to drop slowly, although at the beginning of September the weather can still be very hot, and the sea will practically not get colder by the end of the month. However, during this period, sharp cooling with rains sometimes occurs. But, as a rule, they do not last long - a few days. Also, at the end of August, the season of jellyfish and nippers (sea cockroaches) begins, so this may not be especially sensitive. Plus trips in September - housing prices are starting to fall, so you can save a lot.

Burgas in the spring

For beach holidays in the spring, only May is suitable, and it is desirable that the end of the month be already. In spring, the sea only begins to warm up and remains cold enough until the end of spring.

The weather, as a rule, becomes warm in April, so in May it is either very warm or the heat begins. But in general, I think that this is not the best time to travel to Burgas. The sea is just heating up, fruits and vegetables are only starting to ripen, nights can still be cool. Thus, you will not have the impression of either the city or the rest that you expect.

Burgas in winter

It is clear that there is no beach holiday in Burgas in winter. And even if the temperature does not drop below zero, even for a cultural holiday this is not a good time. As the residents themselves say, a cold piercing wind constantly blows from the sea, the humidity is naturally high, so their temperature -1 feels like ours -10. And, since all the most beautiful and interesting in Burgas is in the open air, it is unlikely that such excursions will bring you a lot of pleasure.

Areas. Where is better to live

Despite the fact that Burgas is not a very large city, it is divided into many areas. At the prices of hotels and apartments, of course, everything is simple: the closer to the center and the sea, the more expensive. But sometimes you can find several good options at a great price.

There is no clear division into criminal and non-criminal areas. In general, the city is calm.

You can book on booking, and compare prices here. Want to feel the flavor of Burgas? Look at the apartments that are renting local here.

Center and Vazrazhdane districts

These two districts are the center of Burgas, which is focused on tourists. It has the most architecture with history, hotels, cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops and more.

The areas are close to the sea: the Center adjoins directly to the Morska Gradina park, behind which there is a beach, a little further, beyond the Center there is the Vazrazhdane area.

The downside of these areas is their popularity. They are studded with various establishments, ranging from cafes to nightclubs. Therefore, if you are sleeping sensitively when choosing a hotel in these areas, specify which establishments are located in the immediate vicinity of the hotel.

In these areas hostels (from 8 EUR per night), hotels (average room rate of 30 EUR per night) and apartments (also an average of 30 EUR per day) are represented.

Lazur and Bratya Miladinovi districts

A good option for choosing a hotel or apartment are these areas, especially Lazur, which is located close to the sea. I would describe it as a "premium sleeping area." Firstly, it is calm here, and secondly, it is quite beautiful and well-groomed, and thirdly, housing prices are higher. An apartment a day will cost on average 40 EUR, a hotel room - 33 EUR.

The Bratya Miladinovi district is located in the very center of the city. There is a large accumulation of infrastructure, an abundance of various shops and markets, there are also entertainment venues. The prices here do not wind up, so all souvenirs can be bought at a regular store or pharmacy much cheaper. Want to be closer to civilization, but not be in the crowd of tourists - this option is for you.

Here you can rent a hotel room (on average 28 EUR per night) or apartments (30 EUR per day).

Zornitsa, Izgrev, Slaveykov Mahala, Petko R. Slaveykov

These four areas are geared towards locals. Here are large apartment buildings and various other buildings typical of sleeping areas. But most importantly, they are further from the sea.

Despite the orientation of the areas, hotels are also located here and apartments are for rent, and in general this is a good option for those who like silence. At prices - I would not say that it is much cheaper here. Most importantly, keep in mind that you will get to the sea much longer.

A hotel room here will cost an average of 26 EUR, apartments - 28 EUR per day.

Victory and Akatsiite areas

Victory and Akatsiite are located on the isthmus between the sea and the lake south of the city. It mainly houses private homes of local residents, small industrial workshops and storage facilities. Here you can rent apartments from 16 EUR per day. But although the sea is right next to you, this is not a good option, you are unlikely to want to swim there. In addition to the fact that the private sectors are interspersed with the industrial ones, from the sea you are surrounded by moorings on all sides.

The districts of Meden Rudnik and Sarafovo

These are the most remote areas from the city center. Meden Rudnik (see on the map above) is also located farthest from the sea. This is not a tourist area at all, there are no hotels and apartments for rent. But even if you find something, think about how much time will be spent on the road.

Sarafovo district is located near the Bourgas airport in the north of the city. There are a lot of apartments for rent, there are hotels and a nice beach. Many tourists who come for a beach holiday generally like this area. The minus is the proximity of the airport, so you will hear the takeoff and landing of each aircraft.

Here, a hotel room will cost an average of 24 EUR, apartments - 32 EUR per day.

Kraimorie and Atia

These are not Burgas districts, but I think that they are also worth mentioning. Kraimorie is a village south of the city, a popular tourist destination. Many come here for a relaxing holiday. Here you can rent a room in a small hotel (23 EUR per day) or apartments (28 EUR per day).

Still further is the village of Atia, next to which by the sea there is a holiday village. This is a good place for a more secluded holiday. If you want to completely leave the city bustle or just need a house for a big company, then you can try to rent a summer house here. There are only cottages and the sea, there are no shops, no restaurants. The rental price starts from 40 EUR per day. Just think about food in advance, because the nearest store is in the village.

Here we decided to rent a house for 10 days, and, believe me, if you do not plan to write a book or a picture, it’s not worth it. The first days everything is very cool: the sea in the window, the sea breeze and the sounds of the waves, almost a private beach nearby. But then you will begin to die of boredom and monotony. At least we experienced exactly that. Although who knows, maybe you are so tired of everything that you don’t want to see and hear anyone. Then this is your paradise.

What are the prices for vacation

What else attracts the rest in Bulgaria is the affordable prices. This city is considered, if not the most, then one of the cheapest for recreation.

The cheapest accommodation option, of course, will be a hostel: one place will cost from 8 EUR per day (for example I will take options located not very far from the sea and the tourist area). A double room is about 30 EUR. You can also rent apartments for the same price.

Food in Burgas is also inexpensive, you can eat well in an inexpensive restaurant for 10 EUR. On the streets of the city everywhere they sell pizza, pies, duner (our shawarma) and various snacks, which will cost 2-3 EUR. In the store or in the market you can cheaply buy delicious Bulgarian vegetables and fruits.

You will need transport in Burgas, if only you live somewhere far from the sea or the city. Basically, all the tourists in the city move on foot.

If you like outdoor activities, then additionally spend money on various entertainments and excursions.About what to see in Burgas and how much it costs, I will tell below.

The main attractions. What to watch

All the most beautiful and interesting in Burgas is located directly under the open sky, and in most cases you don’t even have to pay to look at it. One minus is that a lot is located outside the city, so you will need transport.

Top 5

It is very difficult for me to single out the 5 most interesting places in Burgas, because there are a lot of them and each of them is interesting in its own way. Therefore, in the top I will designate the most popular places among tourists.

Morska Gradina

Morska Gradina is the most popular park in Burgas, located near the sea. It seems to separate the city and the beach.

Perhaps the most popular part of the park is the Bridge. This is a structure that goes almost 300 meters into the sea. People come here to take a beautiful photo or just take a walk.

The park is also distinguished by an abundance of various exotic plants and monuments.

But people are not only attracted to this; a lot of different entertainments are concentrated here. The park has an open stage, where some concerts are often held, there is a summer theater and many different establishments where you can relax and eat.

Sand festival

Every year at the beginning of summer, sculptors from different countries come to Burgas to the Sand Figures Festival. As a rule, the exhibition opens to visitors in early July and ends by the start of preparations for the next festival.

Each year, the organizers provide a new theme for the festival, within which sculptures should be made.

It turns out quite interesting and beautiful, plus - this is a good option where to go with children. Entrance fee: adult ticket is about 1.5 EUR (3 BGN), children - 0.5 EUR (1 BGN).

Pools with brine and healing mud

In the north of the city, between the central districts and the Sarafovo district, there are Burgaski suns with medicinal brine and mud. Even if you do not have any health problems, it’s a sin not to take this opportunity - undergo several SPA procedures for free.

Usually they start with salt water, in which they lie for 20-30 minutes, no more, then dirt is already applied. By the way, the suns are located near the sea, so you will not stay dirty. The main thing is to behave calmly and gently in the brine: water should not get on your face, and even more so in your eyes.

Monument to Alyosha

A monument to the Soviet Army is installed on the main square of the city of Troikat. This is probably the most famous cultural place among the Russians. But in addition to paying tribute to the past, people come here and just take a walk.

There are fountains in the square, a particularly interesting spray fountain is located directly in front of the monument. It helps to cool off in the heat, and even in the evening it is pleasant to stand in it, moreover, it is illuminated by lights in the dark.

Cathedral Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius

The Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius is the most beautiful religious building not only in Burgas, but throughout the country. He is considered even one of the symbols of the city. It is beautiful not only outside, but also inside, where the famous Bulgarian masters performed the murals. The temple is not ancient, but quite old - built in the early 20th century. It is located in the Tsentar district, on Cyril and Methodius Square.

The temple is active, so that everyone in appropriate clothing can visit it. You can find out about the ongoing services by contacting the temple, contacts are here.

Beaches. Which are better

All the beaches, which will be discussed below, I marked on the map.

City central beach

The central beach is the beach behind the Morska Gradina Park. It is conditionally divided into 3 parts.

  • The central part is approximately from the bridge to the end of the park to the left. It is distinguished by its abundance of various institutions and entertainment, and it is also under the supervision of lifeguards.
  • The right side - at the restaurant "Neptune", is considered an elite beach. It is the most clean and beautiful. Prices may be slightly more expensive.
  • The left part - the northern part of the beach, used to be a favorite place of nudists. She is not guarded, so now you can stumble on lovers of sunbathing naked.

I want to say right away that looking for clean water in the Black Sea is a pointless exercise, well, unless you are a biochemist. In terms of ecology, it has long been recognized as one of the dirtiest, and you will not find transparent calm water either - it is even named accordingly: Black, i.e. dark, constantly worrying. Nevertheless, this does not mean that you should not go to him. After all, this is still the sea, and there remains much benefit from it. The only thing is, if you are timid and do not tolerate sea creatures, do not go here in late August - September. At this time, the season of jellyfish and nippers (sea cockroaches) begins.

In general, it remains only to choose a beach by the Black Sea. And this generally good sandy beach with a smooth entry into the sea. The only thing that may come across sharp pebbles and shells, but this can be found everywhere. I myself have never been cut by anything on the shore or in the sea, but once I found here a large piece of glass (in the central part). In general, the beach is carefully monitored and cleaned, especially the central and right parts. Therefore, it may not have been tracked down or not managed to be removed. But still be vigilant. And I think that it’s good to relax here, including with children. At least there are lots of children every year. There is a lot of entertainment, there are rescuers, thefts are very rare.

Oh yes, another feature of the entire sea here. Due to the fact that the bottom is sandy and the sea is rough, the bottom can change. This is especially noticeable after big waves. Today you calmly go and go yourself in the sea, gradually plunging, and tomorrow after a couple of meters - a cliff. It is small, not more than a meter, so for those who can swim, it does not matter. But keep the rest in mind, before you let the children into the water, it is better to first check the bottom yourself.

Beach in Sarafovo

Sarafovo is a popular tourist area, so the beach is also watched here. Plus there are breakwaters, because of which there are no such strong waves as on other beaches. Because of this, it is best suited for families with children. The difference with the central beach in fewer establishments and entertainment.

Kraimorie Beach

Those who will live in Kraimorie also have a nice sandy beach. In the seasons it is monitored and cleaned; there are various establishments and entertainments. There are no breakwaters, so the waves can be stronger than usual. But this does not stop anyone; here too many who come to rest with children.

Atia Beach

In the area of Atia there is a large wild beach. Its central part is a favorite vacation spot for locals who choose to go where there is no people. On the right side you can find campsites that are often arranged by surfers. The left side adjoins the cottage settlement, therefore its inhabitants mainly rest here.

In general, this is not a good option if you are not renting a cottage here. In the central part of the beach it is quite dirty in seasons, plastic can wallow and swim. Locals who come here to swim do not like to clean up after themselves, and the authorities, apparently, cheat. To the left, where the beach adjoins the holiday village, everything is different. There, as a rule, it is very clean, calm. But there is no access to the car.

As for the prices for renting a sun lounger and umbrella throughout the city, now every year the prices change, but expect that the set will cost from 3 EUR.

Churches and temples. Which are worth a visit

ABOUT the temple Saints Cyril and Methodius It has already been said, I think it is necessary to visit him first. But there are other interesting religious sites in Burgas.

Church of the Holy Virgin

This is the oldest temple in the city, built in the mid-19th century. In addition to the fact that the building itself is very interesting, inside the temple are icons painted by monks on Mount Athos (Greece). Believers, I think, know her. But even if you are not a believer, you can just come and enjoy the architectural and icon-painting art.

In addition, the temple itself is located in the center of the cultural and tourist life of the city, so you won’t have to travel for a long time.

The temple is active, therefore, if you want to get a service or a liturgy, find out in advance when and what time it will begin. Contacts of the temple can be found here. If you dress appropriately, you can easily see the temple from the inside. If any important ceremony is already taking place inside, you will be warned at the entrance to be especially quiet, and even in some cases they will not let you go. To avoid this, do not go here in the morning or in the evening, when services are most often held.

Armenian Church of the Holy Cross

Everyone who has been to Burgas knows this church because it is located in the very center of tourist life, near the Burgas hotel.

This is an ancient church, built in the 17th century, it is considered one of the oldest buildings in the city.

If you walk around Burgas, you will see it in any case, so you don’t even need to go to it specially. For fun, you can go inside, although the interior in it is very simple, without murals and stucco moldings. There is only a small altar with icons and benches for visitors. Many tourists huddle in their everyday clothes, but a minister or just believers can make a remark to you. To my knowledge, this small church serves as a modest place where people can pray, no services are offered here.

These are not all the religious buildings of the city, but these, in my opinion, are the most beautiful and interesting.

Museums Which are worth a visit

In Burgas there is a Regional Historical Museum, which includes 4 buildings. For me, the most interesting of them are buildings with archaeological and historical expositions.

Archaeological Museum

As the name implies, archaeological finds collected in the vicinity of Burgas are on display here.

Ancient amphoras, the remains of sculptures and bas-reliefs, dishes, and much more that keeps the history of Ancient Thrace, ancient Greece and the Roman Empire.

The museum is located on a tourist street - Blvd. Aleko Bogoridi 21, near the Burgas Hotel. Ticket price 2.5 EUR (5 BGN). Opening hours are from 9:00 to 17:00, weekends - Sunday and Monday.

Historical Museum

This building contains exhibits related to the history of the city of Burgas and the whole region.

The museum is small - it has only 3 floors. The oldest exhibits are stored on the ground floor: the original Bulgarian icons of the Trevnensky school, old printed books, church utensils.

The first floor is used for temporary exhibitions, and on the second are samples of European art of the 18th-19th centuries. Here you can also look at the national costumes of the Bulgarians and their household items.

This museum is located near the Archaeological Street. Lermontov 31. Admission is also 2.5 EUR (5 BGN). By the way, if you are planning to visit both museums, then buy a ticket to visit two museums, which will cost 3 EUR. And if you want to get around 3 or all 4 buildings, then the tickets will cost 4 EUR or 5 EUR, respectively. Opening hours are from 9:00 to 17:00, weekends - Sunday and Monday.

For lovers of painting in the city there are also galleries.

Art Gallery Petko Zadgorski

This is the most significant and oldest gallery in Burgas, named after the Burgas artist and sculptor.

In the gallery's fund there are quite a lot of paintings, sculptures and icons relating to different times.

The gallery is located not far from the Burgas Hotel and from the Historical Museum, ul. Metropolitan Simeon 24, and is located in the building of the former synagogue, so that you immediately recognize it at least by its color. Entrance costs 1,5 EUR (3 BGN). It is open from Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 18:00.

Parks

Morska Gradina

Since this park has already been mentioned in the Top 5 section, I won’t spread much.

Just to summarize: Morska Gradina is an entertaining and educational park with many cafes and monuments. This is one of the most beloved and popular places among tourists and residents.

Park Lake

This park adjoins the Seaside park and departs from it to the left along the shore of the lake.

In addition to being a sand festival, this is a good place for sports. On the territory of the park there are horseback riding, tennis courts, there are bike paths.

Atanasovskoye Lake Reserve

This place is popular with tourists due to salt and mud pools, which I also talked about. But that's not all. On the other side of the salt flats there is a "green" zone, where many types of plants grow, among them beautiful orchids, many species of rare animals live.

The most popular place here is a birdwatching shelter. A specially equipped building that allows you to comfortably observe the fauna.

This place is very popular with zoologists around the world, since there are a huge number of species of birds. Among them, 14 are endangered. If you are interested in the world of animals and plants, then you will like it.

Poda Nature Reserve

In the south of the city there is another reserve where you can also watch birds.

Poda is a more organized place, here the entrance costs 1 EUR and additionally guided tours for 6 EUR. It is also interesting because nearby are archaeological sites of the ancient fortress of Foros, which you can see.

The fortress is important in history, excavations are still being carried out here, and every year something new is discovered.

Tourist streets

Aleko Bogoridi Boulevard

This is a real tourist street leading from the city to the sea.

There are many different shops, mainly souvenir, all kinds of snack bars, bars, restaurants, cafes and stalls.

Here you can fully buy souvenirs. And although the prices are not space, it is still for the most part more expensive than in stores on less popular streets.

In the tourist season, this is the most walkable and visited place in Burgas.

Here, many tourists while away their time during the midday heat, when being under the sun is fraught with burns. Someone wanders around the shops, someone at the bars.

Aleksandrovsk street

If you look on the map where Aleko Boulevard begins, you can see that it originates from Aleksandrovsk Street, which runs perpendicular to it. This is the main street of Burgas. It starts right next to the railway station of the city and leads to the monument to Alyosha. The street is quite wide and planted with trees along its entire length. Therefore, it is even a boulevard in the full sense of the word, and not a street.

Here the situation is more serious in terms of the fact that there is no such general orientation to tourists. There are more shops where city residents themselves can shop, there are grocery stores such as Billa, there are offices and some municipal institutions.

But still a large number of shops, cafes, bars, restaurants attract tourists here. Plus - the street connects one of the most tourist sites of the city: the railway station, the Burgas Hotel and Troikat Square.

What to see in 1 day

For 1 day in Burgas you will be able to see very little, because much is located outside the city. But at least something is better than nothing.

  • 09:00 I propose to start exploring the city from the Seaside Park. Walk around, look at Pushkin, Cyril and Methodius, the figures of art and culture of Bulgaria, visit the pantheon. Do not forget about the bridge: to come to Burgas and not to go to the bridge is almost a crime, so stop by to take a couple of beautiful photos.

  • 11:00 I think, being in Burgas, it’s just a sin not to visit the sun. You can walk from the park to them for about half an hour, but if you are reluctant, you can take a taxi. It will take you to the far entrance, where there is a large parking lot. The trip will cost approximately 6 EUR (12 BGN). Above, Top 5 describes how and what to do there. Return also: either on foot or by taxi (write down the number in advance!).
  • 13:00 By this time, the sun begins to burn, so we move smoothly into more shady spaces. I suggest walking along Aleko Bogorodi Boulevard.Look at the souvenirs and other stuff, maybe buy something with the symbolism of this particular city, well, or just find something interesting for yourself. Lunch time is just right, so here you can easily find a place to eat.
  • 14:30 Since interesting archaeological sites are far from the city center, I suggest visiting at least the Archaeological Museum. It is located very close - right on Aleko Boulevard. Entrance 2,5 EUR (5 BGN).
  • 16:00 Before the sun sets, go see sand sculptures. In few places you will be able to admire such exhibits of world scale. In case you get tired: you can get to the next destination by bus 11 (0, 5 EUR = 1 BGN) from Koprivshtitsa stop to General Gurko Street (or as it is also called the "Third Clinic").

  • 17:30 On the street of General Gurko you will reach the monument to Alyosha, where you will walk around the square, see the monument and fountains. Then go to the main street Aleksanrovska. On it you can turn and walk to the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius. After that, you can return back to Aleksanrovska Street, where there are many restaurants where you can have dinner.

  • 19:30 After dinner you only have to take a walk along the main street of the city of Burgas. I think if you came to this city for 1 day, then you just relax in another city in Bulgaria, and you will need to go back (hardly anyone will fly back and forth for 1 day). It’s good to finish your city tour on this street, because it leads south, just to the railway and bus stations.

What to see in the surroundings

Near Burgas there are many interesting places worth visiting. I will only say about those that for me personally have become the most interesting and memorable.

Baklarka observation deck

30 km from Burgas is the observation deck Bakirlka Bakyrlyka, which offers beautiful views of the entire surroundings.

This is just a mountain that you can visit for free. I want to warn that the place is not equipped for tourists, therefore, climbing a mountain, you may be confused that the path ends with some kind of building with a tower and dogs. Do not worry, you need to leave the car somewhere nearby, and by foot walk around the building on the right along the path (it’s the only one there and well trodden there). Also be careful on the edge, as the cliff is not fenced.

Public transport does not go to this place and, as far as I know, there are no excursions here, so you will have to get by taxi or private car. And at least 40 minutes you will need to get on foot to the site and back and take a few photos.

Fortress Acre

Also, about 30 km from Burgas, near the city of Chernomorets, there are archaeological sites of the ancient fortress of Acre.

Part of the walls of the fortress was reconstructed, the rest of the excavations were left as they are in the open.

Acre is the tip of the peninsula, which is fraught with a huge history. When you get here, it’s as if you are in a quest where you are your own archaeologist. It was amazing to me that in Bulgaria they leave the excavation sites just like that: the walls of ancient houses, shards of dishes, pebbles here in front of me, not under vigilant protection, but left to their own devices. Moving further to the end of the peninsula, more modern specimens are added to antiquity, but no less interesting. Somewhere since the Second World War there was a base from which there were some dilapidated turrets, steps and something like an underground bunker. In addition, there are several mini-memorials to those who died here during the war.

The place itself is very picturesque, here you can make a lot of very beautiful photos. Entrance here is free, you can either get to Chernomorets by bus, and then on foot or by car.

Castle Wind in Love

Another of the most popular places for all tourists is the castle, located in the village of Ravadinovo. This is not a historical place, but a modern building. It attracts tourists not only the beauty of the castle, but also the garden. There are a lot of different flowers, plants, and animals. Peacocks walk on the lawns, swans swim in the pond, you can stroke a pony and look at the llamas and many other animals. There are those who believe that there is no need for adults to go here, but I liked it. Such an unusual, fabulous place, as if falling into the scenery of a fantasy film.

The castle is 30 km from Burgas, so transport will be needed. You can get on the bus Burgas - Sozopol, which departs from the bus station in Burgas. Some of these buses go straight to Sozopol, so you have to go on a bend to Ravadinovo and continue on foot, and some go to Ravadinovo (for more details, see the schedule on the website first). The ticket price is about 2.5 EUR (5 BGN) one way. You can also take a taxi, it will cost about 25 EUR one way. The entrance fee to the castle is 5 EUR (10 BGN), children under 7 years old admission is free. If you want more comfort, you can book a tour (56 EUR per person).

Ropotamo Nature Reserve

50 km from Burgas is the Ropotamo Nature Reserve, named after the river, which flows into the sea here.

For me, the view was amazing where the river flows into the sea. It is so winding, and on the sides are high banks with vegetation, as if it were the Amazon in front of you. But the most amazing was the local beach. He is right here, so to speak, around the corner. Here it is as if you are somewhere in a completely different place, not on the Black Sea. There are no waves, the water is clear as in mountain lakes, and crabs run along the bottom and calm reigns around. I would call this place a paradise beach. I highly recommend visiting.

I also advise you to take something from insects with you, since you will have to walk here through the shady vegetation in which all kinds of insects live. Admission is free.

Beglik Tash

Beglik Tash is the oldest Thracian sanctuary located in the reserve. It is a collection of huge stones of various shapes, which at one time had a different important purpose.

At the entrance you can take the programs and read about the value of each boulder. It is interesting to wander among these stones, which more than two thousand years ago were home to people.

Here the entrance is paid - 2.5 EUR (5 BGN), you can also book a tour.

Sozopol

Oh, this town is the realm of romance. When you find yourself here, it seems that the time around has stopped and all things can wait. I had love for this city at first sight.

In addition to being very beautiful, there are ancient archaeological sites right in the city. Here you can buy interesting souvenirs or an old little thing.

Since you are in Burgas, I advise you to at least just go for a walk, sit in a cafe in this beautiful city.

Sozopol is located about 30 km from Burgas. You can get there by car, boat (10 EUR, from the port of Burgas) or by bus (like - read above about the castle in Ravadinovo).

hint: Routes to neighboring cities Burgas - Sarafovo 7 km Burgas - Pomorie 15 km Burgas - Sozopol 20 km Burgas - Chernomorets 14 km Burgas - Ravda 23 km

Nearby islands

Island of St. Anastasia

6 km from Burgas is the small island of Sveta Anastasia, which has recently become popular with tourists.

This is an island with its legends and great history. Previously, there was a monastery, then a prison, now all this has become a museum. In addition, there is a cafe-pharmacy, a restaurant, a lighthouse and even a hotel where you can stay.

In general, the island is beautiful and quite interesting. Particularly attractive is the fact that this is a fairly short and comfortable trip. Therefore, this is a good option for how not to strain too much to diversify your vacation.

Getting to the island is not so long: 30 min. Pleasure boats depart from the Bridge, which is behind the park in Burgas, and go 5 times a day. Cost: 6 EUR plus 3 EUR for entrance to the museum.

Food. What to try

Here are some facts about food in Bulgaria and specifically in Burgas, which I would like to share:

  • Here are delicious tomatoes and peppers, so all the dishes with them - lick your fingers! The most famous salad is Shopsky.
  • Trite, but I remind you: coastal cities, which means fresh seafood.

  • The normal taste of dairy products is sour here, they love it here.
  • Bulgarian cheese is not what is sold in our stores. The most popular dish with her is banitsa.
  • The food here is cheaper.

This is the basic thing you need to know. You can read more about national dishes here. My personal top 5: Shopska salad, fish (any), onion, banitsa and chatter.

There are plenty of restaurants, cafes, eateries and almost no expensive establishments (by the standards of Moscow prices everything is generally cheap here). For example, a dinner for two with alcohol in an inexpensive restaurant will cost from 18 EUR.

You can also buy products in a store or market. The largest bazaar in Burgas is called Krasnodar, which is located almost in the center.

Here is a small example of prices per 1 kg of product:

  • salmon from 3 EUR;
  • tuna from 5 EUR;
  • feta cheese from 2.5 EUR;
  • tomatoes from 1 EUR;
  • watermelon from 0.25 EUR.

Holidays

In Burgas, the holidays are not crowded. There is only one bright, purely burgan holiday - this is City Day.

  • Day of the city of Burgas. Celebrated on December 6th. Another holiday falls on the same day: St. Nicholas the Wonderworker Day, the patron saint of fishermen and sailors. Therefore, it is customary to celebrate City Day in Burgas with fishing attributes. For example, on this day various fish dishes are cooked: boiled, fried, steamed - any. In general, this day turns into a fish feast with festivities and a concert. At the end of the evening, fireworks are launched.

  • Christmas holidays also become bright for the city, when streets are decorated, Christmas trees appear, and fairs are organized.
  • Day of enlightenment, culture and Slavic writing. In the spring, May 24th, this Bulgarian holiday is held. This is a time of cultural entertainment: concerts, exhibitions, readings are held.
  • In the summer, various festivals are held: music, theater, sand figure festival, there are even wine festivals.

Security. What to watch out for

The situation in Burgas is normal, no one is afraid to walk around the city day or night. But still, as elsewhere, people are different, sometimes pickpocketing happens. Just watch your belongings, do not take all the most valuable to the beach. Although we swam many times, leaving bags, wallets, phones and nothing happened on the beach.

Girls who came to rest without male escorts may not be afraid. There are many who relax alone: go to the beach, on excursions, shopping. Bulgaria, after all, is a European country and a way of life, customs here correspond to this.

Recently, the situation has been worsened by the presence of migrants who have trodden a path to the north through Bulgaria. In Burgas, in my opinion, there is no refugee accommodation center, but in the country here and there some groups sometimes appear. True, they are immediately trying to attach them somewhere, so it is unlikely that it will cause you any inconvenience. Most likely you will not meet them at all.

In general, there is nothing to worry about. In the end, so many Russians are resting here, and many residents love Russians, that they won’t let you be offended.

Things to do

Shopping and shops

In Burgas there are 4 full-fledged shopping centers:

  1. Mall Galleria.
  2. Like Prestige.
  3. Burgas Plaza.
  4. Tria City Center.

They mainly feature stores of global chains such as Adidas, H&M, Bershka, etc. There are also those that are not in Russia.

There are no outlet shopping centers. There are outlet boutiques of individual companies.

At prices it is impossible to say whether it is cheaper or more expensive, the same thing as ours is lucky, no luck. In chain stores, sales begin in the summer, at the end of July. In usual later - by the end of August. In general, if people have an extra ruble, they try to buy something from leather (Bulgarian production) here, it seems to be both cheaper and better. But it’s impossible to say right now that it’s cheap. Also, tourist streets are considered a place for shopping, especially Aleksandrovsk.

In general, if you came to Burgas for shopping, you did it in vain. Here you can sometimes entertain yourself with this occupation, go buy some little thing cheap or which one you can’t buy at home. But it’s not worth hoping that “here I will get dressed”. In terms of shopping, Burgas is an ordinary city with usual prices, not the Chinese market and not Milan.

Bars Where to go

In Burgas there are many different bars, even all worthy not to list. In the city center they are on almost every corner. Everything works differently, but, as a rule, until the morning. The audience is almost the same everywhere - ordinary residents mixed with tourists. There are, of course, thematic establishments where, for example, rockers gather, but there are very few of them, and ordinary people also often look at such places.

  • Among the not very expensive retro bar Dover. From retro there are only some interiors of the last century, music and drinks are modern. But there is a fairly good atmosphere and a large bar. A normal selection of drinks, there are even very interesting ones with an unusual serving. There are also alcohol promotions, which is also a plus. Open from 9:00 to 04:00.

  • Another inexpensive and good bar - Barbossa. In the afternoon this is a real lounge bar, on weekends there are DJs or some other events. Very nice atmosphere, unpretentious and comfortable. The prices are good - mojito costs 3.25 EUR. Open from 9:00 to 03:00.

  • If you want to spend time by the sea, then there is also a good popular bar - Beach bar caribe. It is located right on the beach behind the seaside park. Prices are normal, about the same as in previous places. Club music plays at nights, sometimes DJs perform. Open from 8:00 to 04:00.

  • If you gravitate to rock or just want to look at something else, go to Bar Without. This is a favorite place for lovers of alternative and rock. But do not think, not everyone goes in bandanas and jackets here, you will not be a black sheep. There are often performances in the evenings, so for fun, you can stop by. Open from 16:00 to 04:00.

  • One of the most expensive restaurants in the city is the bar. Neptune. This bar is located at the restaurant Neptune and, naturally, it is in the same price niche. This means that drinks here are about 30% more expensive than in previous establishments. But it can be noted that it is pleasant to be here: the atmosphere is beautiful. Another plus is that there is a bar near the sea and in the evenings there is live music. Open from 21:00 to 04:00.

Clubs and nightlife

There are also enough clubs in Burgas, they work here, like ours, until the morning. As for the days of the week, basically all clubs work on weekends, but there are exceptions.

  • Azzaro - one of the most popular and expensive, positioning itself as a premium club. Caution - dress code! Entrance is paid - about 5 EUR (10 BGR). Open from Thursday to Saturday from 23:00 to 05:00.
  • Also popular is the club. Planeta paynerlocated in approximately the same segment as the previous one. Free admission. It works every day from 20:00 to 07:00.
  • Another popular club in a slightly cheaper niche is Kashmir. By the way, by the day, it works like a bar, so it works every day from 8:00 to 04:00. But the club, as a rule, happens only on weekends from 23:00. There may also be questions about your appearance. Free admission.
  • The option is simpler and cheaper - Club Brass and Chrome. Entrance from 2.5 EUR (5 BGR). It only works on Friday and Saturday from 22:00 to 04:00.
  • And one more cheap and easy place to go is City Night Club. Free admission. It only works on Friday and Saturday from 20:00 to 04:00.

Extreme sports

Diving

Burgas has at least one diving school. There, if you are a beginner, you can take a training lesson, after which you can swim in the open sea.

Such entertainment is expensive, training and one dive - from 80 EUR.If you plan to seriously engage in diving, you can take a complex of 2, 3, 4 dives, so it will be cheaper.

The Black Sea, of course, is not the Red; here you will not see such colorful diverse fish. But, in my opinion, it is interesting to look into each sea. Diving in Bulgaria is famous for its caves and all sorts of sunken things. At the bottom there may be foundations of ancient houses, sunken parts of ships, various ancient household items.

In Burgas itself, diving is not particularly interesting. The most popular places for this business near Burgas are Sozopol and Nessebar. You can ask at a local school to arrange a dive there or order it directly in these cities.

Surfing, Kitesurfing, Windsurfing

Burgas is well suited for all these sports, especially for beginners. There are no big waves.

The city itself is considered a popular destination for surfers, as it is the bourgeois bay that collects a large number of waves. Professionals living extreme sports here will not be interesting. But for a calm or educational surf, this is an ideal place.

On the beach of the city (to the left of the bridge) there are centers where you can rent equipment or order training. A regular board will cost from 10 EUR, training from 30 EUR. The price depends on your chosen sport, the most expensive will be kitesurfing (~ 150 EUR training).

Souvenirs. What to bring as a gift

In Burgas there is no such popular souvenir that would be inherent only to this city. Unless some magnets or postcards with the emblem of this city. All-Bulgarian souvenirs are brought from Burgas, there are a lot of them. I briefly summarize the most popular ones that buy in this city.

Pink cosmetics

Souvenir number 1 in popularity - pink cosmetics. Creams, soaps, gels, lotions, perfumes and much more, where oil or rose essence is added.

Burgas is full of such cosmetics, there are even separate boutiques. The cheapest product in this area is soap or hygienic lipstick - from 1.5 EUR (3 BGN), hand creams will be slightly more expensive. The most expensive, of course, will be oil. Real good rose oil is expensive - from 15 EUR (30 BGN) per 1 ml.

Ceramics

Many people buy ceramic products with traditional designs and patterns. The most popular variety is Trojan ceramics (after the name of the small town of Troyan, where it is produced). A small plate will cost from 4 EUR.

Woven Products

Woven products with Bulgarian patterns and motifs are popular with tourists.

Such products are natural and fabrics, and threads, and dyes. It can be a tablecloth, towel, napkin or a whole national costume. A small scarf will cost from 2 EUR.

Alcohol

Most of the attachment of wine to the place is indifferent, therefore, just Bulgarian wines are bought in Burgas.Although there are vineyards and wineries in the vicinity of Burgas, you can even buy local wine. For the most part, Bulgarian wine is dry or semi-dry, in color - anything. A bottle of more or less normal wine will cost from 8 EUR. Somewhere from the same amount, the price of a bottle of other popular drinks in Bulgaria - brandies and mastics - is repelled.

Icons

There have been and still are many good icon masters in Bulgaria, so many people who come for themselves or for relatives try to buy icons here.

It seemed to me that in the district of Burgas, Sozopol is a certain center of this business. There they are produced constantly and in good quality. You can buy an icon either in Burgas or in Sozopol itself: a small good icon will cost from 40 EUR.

Food

In Bulgaria, special types of sausages are sold, which are called onion or sujuk.

A stick of such yummy will cost from 3 EUR. Turkish delight is also popular. You can buy in any store for a price of 0.5 EUR per box.

Shells

Well, what sea without shells? You can choose any shell in a tent on the street from 0.5 EUR (though not the fact that it will be Black Sea) or collect it yourself on the shore.

Maybe on the beach they will not be so big and beautiful, but certainly from the Black Sea, from Burgas. A bag with shells is a good and inexpensive souvenir.

How to get around the city

In Burgas, from public transport there are buses and trolleybuses, there are also minibuses and taxis. There are no trams here, just as there is no subway. If you plan to move a lot, then you can rent a car, in another case the taxi will be the most convenient option.

Taxi. What features exist

Taxi prices in Burgas, in my opinion, are generally normal: not very cheap, but they don't bite. Here is an example price list:

  • machine feed ≈ 0.50 EUR (1 BGN);
  • waiting 1 minute ≈ 0.10 EUR (0.20 BGN);
  • 1 km of the path ≈ 0.50 EUR (1 BGN).

A trip from the airport to the city center will cost approximately 12 EUR (24 BGN). This applies to official taxis. There are also people who work for themselves. With them, of course, it's easier: you get out of the airport, and they are already right there. But in most cases, they charge 2 times more for the same route than a regular taxi. Therefore, if you want to be more economical, just before you travel to Burgas, write down a couple of numbers for yourself and order a taxi before you leave or upon arrival.

By the way, do not even expect to pay with a plastic card in a taxi. The fare can be taken both in levs and in euros: for many it is unprincipled. But it is worth clarifying in advance.

If you need a car in the city, you will most likely have to call it. On the city street you are unlikely to stop an empty taxi only if you are in some crowded popular place.

At night, the cost of a taxi increases by about 20%.

Buses

In Burgas there are a sufficient number of bus and trolleybus routes. They, of course, are not dotted with all the streets, as, for example, in Moscow, but in order to get from one district to another, this is a normal option.

There are no specific features of public transport in Burgas. A ticket can be bought directly from the driver - the fare on the city is about 0.50 EUR (1 BGN). Tickets are also sold in stalls with the words "Burgasbus" or "Distribution on prints." You can get acquainted with routes and prices on the official website of the service company.

Vehicle rental

As I said, you only need your own car if you need to move a lot or you want to go somewhere far away.

Already at the airport you will be offered to rent a car, although you can do this in the city itself. It is better, of course, still at home to contact the company and clarify the rental conditions, the availability of the desired car, its condition, etc. You can compare prices from different distributors in advance here.

The most expensive rental season is summer. From June 1 to the end of August, prices soar by about 30%.

The price of a car for 1 day starts from 35 EUR, if you take for a week - from 27 EUR.

The conditions are as follows:

  • availability of rights;
  • international passport;
  • deposit from 150 EUR;
  • a certain age and driving experience.

Companies set different conditions for age (from 21 years old, from 22, 23) and driving experience (from 2 years, 3x). If you are young or have recently obtained rights, it is better to specify these conditions in companies beforehand. Otherwise, you will be charged additional taxes, fees and more.

You can also rent a motorcycle or scooter in Burgas. As for the scooter: the conditions for renting it are almost the same as for renting a car:

  • Existing category B rights;
  • international passport;
  • deposit from 20 EUR;
  • a certain age and driving experience.

As a rule, everyone is given a scooter if they are 21 years old. Sometimes driving experience is indicated (from 1st, 2 years). A scooter is rented, as a rule, for a period of 2 days. It will cost from 70 EUR.

Gasoline in Burgas is more expensive than ours - from 1.5 EUR per liter. I also advise you to pre-specify the cost, terms of use and return of the car, especially if you are renting for the first time.

Tips for motorists

If you took a car in Burgas, then in principle there should not be any difficulties. Traffic and signs there are standard, roads in general are in good condition. If you arrived in Burgas in your own car from abroad, you will need a vignette. It will cost 7.5 EUR per week, 15 EUR per month.

Motorists also need to know about the blue zone. Now the roads in the center of Burgas are painted with blue stripes at the curb - these are parking signs.

There are hours and days when parking in these areas is free: in my opinion, on weekends and at night. The rest of the time, approximately 1 hour of parking costs 0, 5 EUR (1 BGN). Different zones are paid differently: through terminals or SMS (you will find out from the next sign).

Payment via SMS goes this way: you send the state number of the car to the indicated number and the parking amount per hour is debited from your mobile account. Just write without errors, because In general, in Burgas, parking is strictly - your car can either be taken to a parking lot or put a lock on the wheel. By the end of the hour you will receive an SMS reminding you to pick up the car or extend the parking. By the way, if through SMS you will immediately be charged for 1 hour of parking, through the machine you can pay half an hour.

In other places where there are no prohibition signs and other cars are standing, you can safely leave the car.

Burgas - holidays with children

Not only in Burgas, but also on the entire coast of Bulgaria they like to come on holiday with children. Firstly, a short flight, and secondly, it is relatively safe here.

I do not advise you to come with small children in late summer. In August, the season of jellyfish and nippers begins. There can be a lot of jellyfish, they are straight big and can sting for all this. Waves them to the shore, therefore, even just sitting in the water, you can become their victim. Sea nippers are such small cockroaches, wood lice, which live in the Black Sea. They are always there, just in August their number increases. The nippers do not cause any particular discomfort, they can just pinch sometimes. Many do not even notice them, but irritation can begin on the baby's delicate skin. And their appearance is not very pleasant. For example, in preschool age I was wildly afraid of such creatures.

And in general, the city is well suited for families with children. Sea air, vitamins, the sun, and entertainment is here.

  • Of the places that I have already mentioned, it’s good to visit children with, for example, Sand festival (see Top 5). The theme of sculptures is always simple and fun: either these are animals, or cartoon characters - something like that.

  • Children are also very interested in Castle in Ravadinovo (What to see in the vicinity). Fairytale atmosphere, animals, flowers, for boys there are halls with armor.
  • With schoolchildren you can go to the reserve Atanasovskoe Lake or Poda (Parks section) and observe rare birds and animals, look at plants.
  • With kids (although everyone is interested there), you can go to Zoo Burgas, which is located in the village of Black Sea. This is a farm contact zoo owned by a local animal collector. It is small in size, but the animals are different, especially many birds (peacocks, ostriches). The entrance fee is symbolic: around 0.5 EUR (1 BGN) for children, 1 EUR (2 BGN) for adults. You can get on bus number 6, go from Burgas 15-20 minutes.
  • Water parks in Burgas no, the nearest in Nessebar (35 km). Buses go from Burgas, you can also sail from the shelter by boat. The water park is quite good and large, the only negative is that there are often queues for slides. Prices for growth: up to 0.90 m - free of charge, up to 1.30 m - 10 EUR, then - 20 EUR (for the whole day). If you go after 15:00 - 20% cheaper.
