"Vintage Queens": the last Germans on the planet who wear traditional costumes

In the early 2000s, the German photographer Eric Schütt began working in the museum of the history of the German countryside, its life, culture and traditions. For several years, the man was so carried away by the rural life of his native country that he went on a trip to Germany to capture the last on earth of the guardians of the customs of his people.

With the help of historians and museum staff, Schütt found his “vintage queens” - elderly German women who lead a quiet, measured life in the outback and every day still, like dozens of years ago, dressed in traditional German women's costumes. After the first acquaintances and conversations with these unusual old women, the photographer suddenly realized how important and significant his work was, because soon there would be no such woman on the planet who embodied German authenticity.
