Photographer made ominous aerial photographs of melting Greenland ice sheet

Aerial photographer Tom Hegen has dedicated his career to researching how a person affects the environment, and this is not always the best. From engineering salt ponds to industrial tulip fields, these man-made places are both beautiful and intimidating if you think about the consequences. It is these consequences that are in the center of attention of a new series of images of Hegen, on which the ice sheet of Greenland is captured. The project was called "2 degrees Celsius".

This vast ice mass, covering 80% of Greenland, is highly vulnerable to climate change, and it is already beginning to melt. Scientists predict that an increase in average temperatures of 2 degrees Celsius will completely melt the ice of Greenland. Given the fact that so much is said about the danger of rising temperatures on the planet, the photographer decided to personally take a look at the consequences of the industrialization of mankind.

The resulting pictures are deceptively beautiful, until you understand that turquoise, which is more and more manifested in each frame, is present here only because of the increase in temperature and melting ice. The transition from an almost white ice environment to a completely blue surface is a shocking reminder that global warming is not some abstract concept of the future, but the terrible reality of today.
